From correctional facilities and hospitals to construction sites and campuses, controlling access to keys and critical assets is no small task. Key Systems, Inc. (KSI) designs and manufactures electronic key cabinets, asset lockers, and tracking software built to bring accountability and visibility to complex environments. We spoke with Tom Kaika, President of KSI, about securing assets, simplifying management, and why real-time control matters more than ever.

What kinds of key and asset security solutions you provide at KSI?
KSI specializes in products for the security market. Our customer base includes prisons, hospitals, municipalities, industry, colleges, museums, military, retail, and gaming around the world.
Our equipment secures, controls, and tracks keys, weapons, radios and scanners, hospital operating equipment, experimental equipment, vehicles, and tools. We provide software (GFMS) and databases associated with our physical equipment that can run on network servers and cloud services for our software and databases.
Our products are proudly made in the USA. KSI is owned and operated in Upstate New York; Our facility houses, manufacturing, engineering, sales and administrative offices and our 24-hour technical support team.
How do your products help organizations keep their keys and other assets secure and easy to manage?
KSI’s products can manage tools, laptops, radios, access cards, and more, all in one place with the same rules and reporting. Electronic key cabinets and lockers keep keys or equipment in secure compartments where access is controlled. Staff log in using a PIN, card, fingerprint, or app. The system knows who they are and only lets them access the keys or assets they are authorized to use. KSI products record who took a key or asset, when they took it and when it was returned- all in real time.
What trends are you seeing in how companies are thinking about key and asset tracking these days?
Many of our customers are building asset security it into their plans from day one. By incorporating an asset security strategy directly into their building specifications, they are ensuring that protection, access control, and operational efficiency are considered alongside structural, mechanical, and aesthetic elements.
How are digital tools changing the way teams manage access and security on projects or within facilities?
Our GFMS is a sophisticated, flexible, web-enabled software platform that operates entirely through a PC-based interface, without the need for client-side installations. Our approach emphasizes low-maintenance applications, seamless systems integration, and straightforward design, ensuring security management remains both powerful and easy to use. Simplicity, reliability, and scalability are central to our system philosophy.
