Behind the Booth: Moasure
Behind the Booth: Moasure
Accurate measurement sits at the foundation of every construction and property project, yet the tools used to capture that data haven’t changed much in decades. Moasure is aiming to change that. Ahead of New York Build, we spoke with Alan Rock, Founder and Co-CEO of Moasure.

Q: To start, can you tell us a bit about Moasure and how the company came about?
Moasure started with a problem I was trying to solve back in 2002. I wanted to drill through a thick wall from both sides and meet perfectly in the middle. That led me to the idea of a tool that could track its movement through space and tell you exactly where you were on the other side.
At the time, the technology simply wasn’t ready. But the idea stuck. I realized this could be much more than lining up holes – it could be a true three-dimensional measuring tool. The business officially started in 2014 once inertial sensor technology had matured enough, and we launched our first product in 2018, shipping in 2019.
Q: In simple terms, how does the technology work?
We use inertial motion sensors – accelerometers and gyroscopes – that track movement hundreds of times per second. As you move the device, it calculates distance, direction, elevation change, and angle.
Instead of firing a laser between two points, you physically move through the space you’re measuring. Collect enough points and you can measure irregular shapes, slopes, areas, volumes, and full room layouts, not just straight lines.
Q: Who typically uses Moasure today?
Our first strong customer base came from outdoor industries: landscapers, playground installers, fencing contractors, concrete and asphalt teams, irrigation specialists. Anyone measuring distance, area, or elevation outdoors found it immediately useful.
What we’ve learned more recently is that indoor measurement presents just as big a challenge. Property developers, real estate professionals, and contractors are often working without accurate floor plans, especially when dealing with older buildings or large apartment portfolios.
Q: You’re launching a new product at New York Build. What does it do differently?
We’re introducing the Moasure LX1, which is designed specifically for indoor measurement and floor plan creation. You simply move around a room, marking walls, doors, and windows as you go, and the floor plan is drawn in real time on your phone or tablet.

When you finish measuring, the plan is done. This means no writing numbers down, no sketching, no re-drawing later. It also captures wall angles and thicknesses, so you’re measuring the building as it actually exists, not as a simplified rectangle.
Q: Why is that important for developers and property professionals?
Many people are still using laser measures, pen, and paper. That’s slow, error-prone, and frustrating. We’re seeing strong interest from developers and property managers who want to work faster and with more confidence. The LX1 effectively removes a skill barrier. Creating accurate floor plans becomes quicker, easier, and far less painful.
Q: What should visitors expect when they visit your stand?
Demonstrations. People need to see it working to understand it. We’ll be showing fully functioning LX1 units and walking visitors through real-world use cases. Once people see it in use , the value becomes very clear.
