Behind the booth: NY Building Systems Consultant Inc.
As buildings become more energy-intensive and regulatory requirements continue to evolve, expert guidance on building systems has never been more important. NY Building Systems Consultant Inc. provides engineering and sustainability consulting across HVAC and MEP/FP systems, helping property owners and project teams navigate design, compliance, and long-term building performance. Ahead of New York Build, we spoke with the team about energy efficiency, Local Law compliance, and the growing role of engineering strategy in shaping New York’s built environment.

1. To start, can you tell us a bit about NY Building Systems Consultant Inc. and the type of consulting services you provide across the built environment?
As the name suggests, we are a full-service (pre- and post-construction) design and energy engineering consultancy working on buildings and their complex systems, with sustainability always at the forefront. Founded in 2015, we specialize in HVAC systems and mechanical, electrical, plumbing/fire protection (MEP/FP) design, NYC Local Law compliance, ASHRAE energy audits, commissioning, and even special inspections.
2. How do you help owners, developers, and project teams make better decisions around MEP and building performance?
For most clients, receiving quality services from their vendor while also achieving a strong ROI is equally important, along with working with a reasonably priced service provider. We help deliver this through the specific services we provide, keeping industry standards in mind while prioritizing competitive pricing and allowing scope for negotiation wherever possible.
We translate complex engineering data into clear, actionable strategies, all while planning for both our clients’ properties and our city’s carbon future. We help clients understand costs, risks, and performance outcomes, and we focus on delivering practical solutions that improve efficiency, reliability, and long-term asset value.
3. We’re seeing increasing pressure around energy efficiency, compliance, and building reliability. What trends are you seeing right now in building systems design and consultancy?
Yes, absolutely – energy efficiency is quite literally the need of the hour. Climate change is no joke. There is strong global momentum toward decarbonization, particularly under Local Law 97 and its goal of achieving zero carbon emissions by the 2050s.
Clients are prioritizing retro-commissioning, energy modeling, and climate resiliency to reduce emissions and operating costs. There is also growing demand for heat pumps, even in private residences, along with motion-sensor lighting as we shift away from fossil fuels. Geothermal energy is another trend gaining traction, particularly upstate.
4. As buildings become more technical and interconnected, what are some of the biggest challenges project teams face, and how do you help solve them?
As buildings become more technical and interconnected, project teams face several key challenges. Keeping pace with rapidly evolving engineering technologies and new systems entering the market is critical. Coordinating complex MEP systems in a cross-functional environment also demands high precision, along with clear objectives and alignment across design, construction, and management teams. Without strong coordination, even well-designed systems can face performance issues.
We address these challenges by staying current with industry trends and focusing on policy and market standards. Early cross-functional planning, BIM integration, and regular coordination help ensure smooth execution, while careful tracking and proactive problem-solving support successful project delivery.
5. You’re exhibiting at New York Build this year. What can visitors expect to learn or discuss when they visit the New York Building Systems Consultant stand?
All things sustainability. We have a strong repertoire of knowledge we can share with interested attendees about our services. Visitors can expect discussions about the full range of services we provide for buildings, from Local Law compliance strategies to important DOB announcements that professionals should be aware of.
