Behind the booth: Orcutt Windows & Doors

Behind the booth: Orcutt Windows & Doors

Orcutt Windows & Doors manufactures European-style tilt and turn windows in New York for high-performance residential and commercial projects. Ahead of New York Build, we spoke with President & CEO Lance Orcutt about performance, durability, and bringing European window design to the U.S. market.

1. To start us off, can you tell us a bit about Orcutt Windows & Doors and the types of projects and customers you work with?

Orcutt Windows & Doors is an American manufacturer specializing in European-style tilt and turn windows and doors for high-performance homes and buildings. Our European standard hardware is the only component that is imported directly from Germany. All other materials are locally sourced from the State of New York and built in our factory in Amsterdam, New York.

We work with architects, custom builders, designers, and homeowners on all projects from single custom homes to larger commercial and architectural

2. Windows and doors play a big role in both the performance and design of a building. In simple terms, what sets Orcutt’s products apart for architects, builders, and homeowners?

A big differentiator is how our tilt and turn windows compare to a typical American casement window. With a crank-out casement, the screen has to be on the inside, which means you have to remove it just to clean. If you want to clean the exterior glass, you are usually doing that from outside the house.

With our tilt and turn windows, everything can be operated and cleaned from inside the home. You simply turn the handle, with no cranks involved, and the window either tilts inward for ventilation or swings fully open for easy cleaning of both the interior and exterior glass.

From a performance standpoint, these windows are extremely efficient. We use European hardware, triple gasketing, and double or triple-pane performance glass to eliminate air leakage and improve overall comfort. The tilt feature also allows you to vent your home while keeping things secure. The window only tilts open about four inches, so it cannot be used as an entry point without physically breaking the glass.

3. We’re seeing growing demand for high-performance buildings. What trends are you noticing around energy efficiency, durability, and design when it comes to windows and doors?

Expectations around performance continue to rise as energy codes become more demanding. Airtightness, thermal efficiency, and long-term durability are no longer optional. Double and triple-pane glass, advanced gasketing systems, and high-quality hardware are becoming standard.

At the same time, aesthetics still matter. We are seeing strong demand for clean, European-inspired designs with larger glass areas, improved sound control, and products that feel solid and structural. Our wood windows are extremely well-built and designed to be both structural and long-lasting.

4. Customisation is increasingly important on projects. How are clients’ expectations changing, and how is Orcutt responding to that demand?

We have built flexibility into our product line so clients can customize size, configuration, glazing performance, hardware, and finishes. Every trim kit comes standard with our windows, which simplifies detailing and installation. Whether a project calls for double or triple-pane glass, specific hardware, or enhanced thermal performance, we can support both the architectural intent and performance requirements without overcomplicating the process.

5. You’re exhibiting at New York Build this year. What can visitors expect to see on your stand, and who should come and talk to your team?

At New York Build, visitors can operate our tilt and turn windows and experience the difference firsthand. Seeing how easily the window tilts for controlled ventilation or swings open for cleaning helps people understand the advantages, especially for anyone used to traditional American casement windows or double hung windows.

Visitors will also be able to see our European hardware, triple gasketing, double and triple-pane glass options, and overall build quality up close. Our team will be there to talk through real-world applications, installation details, and performance. Architects, builders, developers, and homeowners working on high-performance or modern projects will all benefit from stopping by.
