State Funding Issued For Renovations To The Bushwick Group Home At 999 Bushwick Avenue In Bushwick, Brooklyn

A $75,000 grant was recently issued for renovations to a group home for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities located at 999 Bushwick Avenue in Bushwick, Brooklyn. Funding was facilitated by State Senator Julia Salazar to Services for the UnderServed, the organization that operates the group home. Renovation work will include the installation of a new ADA-compliant ramp, a widened side entrance, and a renovated bathroom.

Renovation work is part of a broader effort to ensure that the group home can better serve its community. It is intended to allow residents greater independence, aligning with Services for the UnderServed’s mission to provide environments that promote community integration and personal agency. The organization offers extensive support services at the facility, including medical, psychological, and employment support.

999 Bushwick Avenue was built in 1890 in the Romanesque Revival style. It was originally built as a home for Gustav Doerschuck, a prominent German Brewer. Transit nearby the property includes service for the J, Z, and M trains.

“New York State has a duty to foster healthy and spacious neighborhoods,” said Senator Salazar. “I’m honored to present this check to the Services for the Underserved’s leadership, whose dedication to providing our neighbors at 999 Bushwick the agency to live with more independence will contribute immense value to our communities.”
