Sustainable Expansion at Jacob K. Javits Convention Center Achieves LEED Gold Certification
Lendlease and Turner helped provide designs for the expansion of the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center. The $1.5 billion project will serve as a model of environmental efficiency and is likely to generate millions of dollars for the economy in New York City. The million square foot expansion will include several innovative ideas to encourage sustainability. Since 2014, it is estimated the Javits Center has already reduced their energy consumption by 26% by building a rooftop just for wildlife and installing energy efficient equipment throughout the building.
Over three-quarters of their construction waste was sent to landfills to be reused and recycled. They ensured that the construction materials were locally sourced and had sustainable characteristics which led them to achieve LEED Gold certification from the U.S Green Building Council.
