WORKSHOP: Designing Environments to Support Mental & Physical Health
The City of New York recently released the Active Design Guidelines 2.0 – Design for Health and Equity (ADG 2.0), an update to the original guidelines published in 2010. ADG 2.0 goes beyond the promotion of physical activity, incorporating evidence-informed design strategies for neighborhoods and buildings that promote mental wellness, social cohesion, public safety, and civic trust to advance health equity and racial justice. This session will provide a general overview of ADG 2.0, highlight its new features such as the community collaboration chapter and delve into the research base and design strategies. The session will also feature presentations from City leaders and the Center for Active Design on how to operationalize the guidelines within City projects and as a part of healthy building certification systems such as Fitwel.
