WORKSHOP: Regulatory Framework of the New Existing Building Code

19 Mar 2026
Building Solutions & Materials (Workshop 2)
Designed for architects, engineers, contractors, consultants, and development professionals, this workshop introduces the upcoming Existing Building Code and what it will mean for projects across New York City when it takes effect in approximately 16 months. The session will provide a high-level overview of the Code’s structure, its relationship to Limited Alteration Applications (LAAs), the Performance Compliance Method introduced in Chapter 13, and how these provisions will shape the future regulatory framework. A brief case study will illustrate how the new Code is intended to function in practice, helping attendees prepare for the next generation of project review and compliance. The presentation will also highlight the policy goals behind the new Code and how it is intended to support modernization, flexibility, and safer building outcomes. Attendees will leave with a clearer understanding of the direction of the City’s regulatory environment so they can begin aligning future projects with the forthcoming requirements.
