Alan Poeppel

Managing Principal, Langan

Alan Poeppel, P.E., is a Managing Principal at Langan’s New York office, where he’s spent more than three decades helping shape the foundations of some of the world’s most ambitious buildings. His work spans the U.S., the Middle East, and Asia, guiding the geotechnical and deep foundation design of major commercial developments, cultural institutions, and supertall towers — including serving as a senior principal on the 1-kilometer-tall Jeddah Tower.

Along the way, Alan’s contributions to the built environment have earned him industry wide recognition. Engineering News Record named him one of its “Top 25 Newsmakers” for his work on Jeddah Tower, and his alma mater, the University of Illinois, honored him with the CEEAA Distinguished Alumnus Award, celebrating his impact on geotechnical engineering practice and leadership.

Alan also brings his passion for foundation engineering into the classroom as an adjunct professor at Columbia University, where he teaches graduate courses on deep foundations for supertall buildings. He’s equally known for mentoring young engineers — both inside Langan and across the industry — and for his ability to make complex geotechnical challenges clear, practical, and solvable.
