Anjali Mathai is the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at HLW, where she oversees the firm's various Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives and culture-based programs aimed at enhancing the employee experience and increasing engagement and collaboration across the organization. A champion of mental health and wellbeing, Mathai manages HLW's Global Inclusivity Calendar, organizing a rotation of company-wide events each month aimed at fostering deeper, more authentic connections through discussion. She also oversees the firm's philanthropic efforts and is responsible for maintaining HLW's recent achievement of The International Living Future Institute’s (ILFI) Just 2.0 Label––including identifying opportunities for ongoing improvement and facilitating the reporting process to maintain certification.
In addition to spearheading various DEI campaigns, Mathai also supports the human resources team in continuing to grow the firm's ethnically and socially diverse professional staff––a workforce that is currently more than 58 percent composed of women and minorities, with BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) and APIDA (Asian Pacific Islander Desi American) accounting for 41 percent of the team. Prior to joining HLW, she held roles in organizational design, development, and change management, with an emphasis on communication transparency. As a licensed social worker in the nonprofit field, she developed a profound sense of empathy and passion for deepening human connections, solving complex challenges, and implementing best inclusion practices.
