Hi Sun Choi

Hi Sun Choi has over 30 years of experience in the structural analysis and design of supertall buildings and stadiums worldwide, with Thornton Tomasetti in New York City. Her expertise in high-rise design includes optimized structural systems for wind and seismic control, performance-based seismic design, and deep foundation design. She has served as lead designer and project manager for numerous landmark projects in the United States and internationally, including 30 Hudson Yards and the Barclays Investment Bank Headquarters in New York City; Seoul International Financial Center and New Songdo City in South Korea; Shanghai Tower in China; SOCAR Tower in Azerbaijan; and Al Thumama FIFA World Cup Stadium in Qatar.

Hi Sun was a senior principal at Thornton Tomasetti until 2022 and continues to be professionally active as a consultant. She is a CTBUH Fellow, vice chair of the Inclusion Excellence Committee, and serves on the International Editorial Board of the International Journal of High-Rise Buildings. She is also a co-author of CTBUH’s Outrigger Design for High-Rise Buildings and has served numerous times as a panel chair and invited speaker at major professional conferences worldwide.

Hi Sun holds a master’s degree in civil engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a bachelor’s degree from the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art.
