Kate Aglitsky
From student environmental activism in Soviet Union in late 80s through years of hazardous materials management in mid 90s Kate has been building up to her current role of the past 26 years in Environmental Management System and Sustainability champion at New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority, Construction and Development. The scope includes development and maintenance of a robust EMS for both environmental compliance and promotion of sustainability, decarbonization and resiliency in the built environment. Thanks to Kate, MTA has 3 LEED buildings and one Envision project to date, with several on the way. Along the way Kate also advised MTA’s operational agencies on the development of their EMS. In the developing regulatory environment for addressing sustainability issues Kate is actively participating in various working groups that provide policy and guidance recommendations to the legislators. In addition, Kate has been teaching and mentoring students from various educational institutions (Columbia, Cornell, various colleges of CUNY, NYU, Cooper Union etc) and presented at numerous conferences (TRB, GreenBuild, ISI, Zofnass, APTA, UITP, NYC Climate Week, Women Builders Council, RIOS etc). Kate is listed as a senior contributor to a NIST certified EMS course, developed with CUNY City College. Kate is an adjunct professor in Stevens Institute of Technology Sustainability Management Program, teaching EMS, Life Cycle Analysis and Envision (as a certified instructor).
