Michele Basic

Vice President for Comprehensive Modernization, NYCHA

Michele Basic is a leader in affordable housing modernization and public sector capital delivery, currently serving as Vice President of the Comprehensive Modernization Department at the New York City Housing Authority. In this role, she oversees a $1 billion modernization program across four sites in three boroughs, serving more than 8,000 residents in 3,696 apartments. Her work focuses on large-scale building rehabilitation, system upgrades, interior renovations, and sustainability improvements that materially improve quality of life for NYCHA residents.

Michele is known for driving strong coordination across Design-Build teams, capital project staff, property management, and external partners. She prioritizes integrating resident feedback into planning and design, ensuring projects are community-informed and aligned with NYCHA’s long-term vision.

Previously, Michele served as NYCHA’s Director of Recovery and Resiliency, where she managed a $3 billion FEMA grant, the largest in FEMA history, supporting recovery and resilience work at 35 developments impacted by Superstorm Sandy. She also led the development of policies to strengthen climate resilience and disaster preparedness across the portfolio.

Before joining NYCHA, Michele served as a Special Assistant and Deputy Regional Director for U.S. Senator Charles Schumer, supporting post-Sandy recovery efforts throughout New York City and Long Island.
