Shefalee Patel serves as Assistant Commissioner for Engineering Support Services at the NYC Department of Design and Construction. Over the past seven years, she has led and developed DDC’s Infrastructure Front-End Planning program, creating tools and processes that have become essential for scoping and advancing complex capital projects across the city. The work has evolved to focus more deeply on early-stage planning studies, risk management, and improved coordination among agencies, utilities, consultants, and community stakeholders to reduce late-stage rework and improve delivery outcomes. In her role, she supports over $2 billion in capital investments and helps shape practical delivery strategies that prioritize constructability, climate resilience, and long-term value, particularly in underserved New York City neighborhoods.
