As a Senior Associate Principal at KPF, Stefan Al contributes to a number of mixed-use transit-oriented developments, master plans, and high-rise towers. He has focused on pressing issues related to designing large-scale projects within the contemporary city, including high-density, smart mobility, and urban resilience. He is able to draw from his extensive research, including his co-authored book, Beyond Mobility: Planning Cities for People and Places, which won the National Urban Design Award.
Before joining the firm, Stefan served as a TED resident, adviser to the United Nations High Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, and professor of urban design at the University of Pennsylvania. Over the years, Stefan has published seven books on subjects related to urban design and urbanization, which have been widely reviewed and acclaimed including by the Wall Street Journal, Architectural Record, and NPR.
