Balancing Family and Career: How NEW’s Childcare Assistance Program Helps Tradeswomen Thrive
Starting a new career in the trades is exciting — but for many women, it also comes with a big question: “Who’s going to watch my kids while I’m working?”
That’s a reality we hear all the time at NEW. Training programs, apprenticeships, and job sites often demand long hours, early mornings, or late nights. For parents, this can feel like an impossible juggle. Too often, women are forced to choose between pursuing a stable, well-paying career and making sure their families are cared for.
That’s where NEW’s Childcare Assistance Program comes in. The program provides up to 12 months of childcare support, whether that’s helping families connect with trusted childcare providers, offering financial assistance for monthly or emergency care, or supporting informal childcare solutions when licensed options aren’t the right fit.
If you’re a parent or caregiver working toward a career in the trades, know that support is available. Attend an info session, verify your eligibility, and start accessing childcare services that can ease your path forward.
Through the Childcare Assistance Program, eligible students, graduates, and trades workers can receive up to 12 months of childcare support. Services include:
- Childcare referral services tailored to your needs
- Financial assistance for monthly or emergency childcare
- Support for both licensed and informal childcare options
The program is open to:
- Students or graduates of Construction Skills Inc., NEW, Pathways to Apprenticeship, and New York Helmets to Hardhats
- Employed trades workers or those actively seeking jobs
- Parents, foster parents, guardians, and kinship caregivers
