Karen Bausman, Principal and Lead Designer - Karen Bausman + Associates
Rome Prize recipient Karen Bausman is an accomplished licensed architect and the founding principal of New York-based Karen Bausman + Associates, an architecture practice certified by the New York City Department of Small Business Services as a Woman-Owned Business Enterprise (WBE). She has worked extensively with community groups and government agencies in New York. Her firm is the Prime A/E holder of numerous Design Excellence On-Call Contracts as part of New York City's ambitious effort to bring new ideas, technology, and environmental soundness to the design of city-financed buildings in New York. She has completed several new municipal buildings for parkland sites in Brooklyn and Queens. She is currently leading numerous large-scale coastal building projects at waterfront sites in the Bronx and Manhattan. She has held the Eliot Noyes Professor of Architectural Theory Chair at Harvard University GSD and the Eero Saarinen Visiting Professor of Architectural Design Chair at Yale University. She is a faculty member of the Undergraduate Architecture Program at Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, where she teaches Professional Practice and Construction courses. In recognition of her achievements teaching architecture through the intersection of crucial disciplines, Academic Influence named her one of the Top 40 Women in STEM in 2020.
