New Affordable Housing Breaks Ground At 405 Dumont Avenue In Brownsville, Brooklyn

Developers and city officials recently gathered at 405 Dumont Avenue to celebrate the commencement of construction on a new 100-percent affordable housing project.

The development is known as Van Dyke III and is situated within the Van Dkye Houses campus in Brownsville, Brooklyn.

Designed by SLCE Architects, the building will eventually top out at 12 stories with 180 apartments and approximately 18,000 square feet of community facilities. This will include an early childhood development center, a wellness center, and an urgent healthcare center.

Amenities will include a recreation room, a computer and library room, a fitness room, indoor bicycle parking, and landscaped outdoor areas at the roof and rear of the building.

With a focus on sustainability, each apartment is outfitted with Energy Star appliances and lighting fixtures, high-efficiency heating and cooling systems, and eco-friendly interior finishes. The exterior of the structure will also feature photovoltaic solar systems for renewable energy generation.

The structure will comprise 205,500 square feet.

The development team includes New York City’s Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD), the Housing Development Corporation (HDC), the Housing Authority (NYCHA), and Trinity Financial.

A release from the project team did not specify an anticipated date of completion.
